These can look nicer than they sound but a plastic bin will never be as robust as a metal bin so if you have a large family who use the kicthen a lot you may want to pass on the idea of a plastic step trash can , even a rubbermaid trash can , and go straight for the stainless steel models.

Different trash cans for different jobs
Not all jobs in the kitchen need to have a step trash can, as I mentioned earlier a open trash can (a large one) may be better for your recycling of paper and metal. If you have a compost pile then you may want a small wood kitchen trash can where you can put your food waste during preparation and clear up of meals.

Size Matters
You can get a step trash can in any size, they are available in very small sizes right up to the 13 gallon step trash can which would be suitable for just about any family. Before you go and buy yourself the biggest kitchen bin you can find you must make sure that you have somewhere to put it. There is nothing more annoying when you are trying to cook than to keep on tripping over a bin in the kitchen.

If your kitchen has no room to put a big bin in consider getting a couple of smaller ones. A step trash can for the daily rubbish and a bigger one which you can keep in a cupboard somewhere for your non food recycling items.
